Weekend Survival Kits

Weekend Survival Kits and Old Nation Brewing Co. Working Together

Weekend Survival Kits and Old National Brewing Company are working together to raise awareness and funds to feed hungry kids.

It is a point of community pride that Williamston is home for two very different but forward-thinking organizations.  Weekend Survival Kits is a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding hungry kids on the weekends during the school year throughout mid-Michigan; and Old Nation Brewing company which has enhanced the dining and drinking landscape considerably in Williamston over the past few years since bringing the brewery and restaurant to the area.

Weekend Survival Kits (WSK) was co-founded in 2012 by Jeff and Heather Gorsline and has continued to grow by staying focused on theWeekend Survival Kits working together with Old Nation Brewing mission to feed hungry kids.  Closing out this school year, the count of kids served has grown to nearly 4000 and is expected to continue to grow to meet the needs of families with elementary and middle school kids.  In Ingham county alone, there are nearly 11,000 school kids that would qualify for the Weekend Survival Kit. “We are lucky if we can connect with and serve 20% of those that need help. Reaching out to increase the number of children served is a top priority,” shared Jeff Gorsline. “Our organization is successful because of community support and volunteers that recognize that we need them. We are proud to bring the Williamston International Festival of Lagers to the area and honored to have host brewery Old Nation Brewing with us on this first-time event.”

Old Nation Brewing Company working together with Weekend Survival KitsOld Nation Brewing Company opened in Williamston a few years ago. The signature product, beer, has been crafted with over 15 years of brewing experience and is complemented by a mid-western style, high quality pub fare from a very busy kitchen. “We are pleased to have representatives planning to join us from several different breweries for this Festival of Lagers. Visitors should be thrilled with the tasting experience,” shared Mark Logusz of Old Nation. “It is an honor to support such a great nonprofit cause through Weekend Survival Kits.”
