Weekend Survival Kits

Meet DeYonte and McKinzie –  A Power Couple Destined for Success

One of our favorite volunteer duos just got married!  At this interview we learned that they had just returned from a trip to Las Vegas.  A trip that included a visit to a wedding chapel.  Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan!  They were so proud to show off their new wedding rings!  This duo met (wait for it…) in middle school in Dowagiac.  DeYonte has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and is currently on a pre-medicine track, while McKinzie graduated college in 2019 and currently works in the accounting field for a county auditor.

McKinzie uses some of her spare time to coach girl’s volleyball and softball.  She shared that she is probably harder on herself as a coach than she is on the athletes.  No doubt that she is creating a culture of determination and success for her athletes.

Volunteering was an easy choice for both as they share that each of their families embrace a faith-filled lifestyle which included many acts of charity and giving back.  DeYonte and McKinzie have been volunteering for Weekend Survival Kits since March 2021 .  “ We try to make an impact where ever we are at, and the volunteer work for Weekend Survival Kits is very rewarding.”

When asked about future plans both DeYonte and McKinzie stressed that they will continue their commitment to Weekend Survival Kits for as long as they are in the area.

Kyla Parkllan, Director of Operations, emphasizes “DeYonte and McKinzie come ready to work at volunteer events. They have volunteered at both of our packing locations and even at summer fundraising events. Their smiling faces and positive attitudes are what makes them so deserving of the WSK Volunteer Spotlight.  Without volunteers like the Sullivans, WSK simply could not fulfill our mission of Giving HOPE to hungry Kids!”

Wherever their future paths take them, Weekend Survival Kits is honored to have had their volunteer support.  We wish them both continued success in their life together!
