Giving Tuesday for Weekend Survival Kits

This Giving Tuesday Begins with Gratitude

Giving Tuesday 2020 logoGiving Tuesday brings the opportunity to put heart and gratitude back into the holidays.  This year, more than ever, as the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving it is a great time to reflect on all those things we can put in the grateful column.

The looming uncertainty which Covid-19 has placed on us has taken a toll on so many. At Weekend Survival Kits we are truly thankful for the generosity of 2|42 Church for opening the community center on their campus to us for the purposes of packing, storing food kits and staging them for delivery.  We are grateful for the volunteer groups, including those from Independent Bank and Lake Trust Credit Union, plus those individual volunteers who signed up and walked into a gymnasium with a mountain of cases of food ready to be staged for packing.  With limitations on the number of volunteers we can have in the building, packing sessions that used to be completed in a couple hours with 50+ people, now must be approached in an entirely different manner.  We appreciate the hustle and work ethic of our volunteers who often end up getting in a real workout as part of the volunteer bargain!

This Giving Tuesday we have Gratitude for Partners

We are grateful for our long-time supporters from so many local service clubs, and for recurring givers who make it just a little easier to forecast the growing needs for food supports. And, we are incredibly blessed to have the partnership of the Greater Lansing Food Bank, which has included some happy surprises. We are grateful to be working together to get a handle on the growing challenges of food insecurity among families who may have lost their jobs or are struggling to manage the added challenges of helping to coordinate the remote schooling of their kids.

We are especially grateful for the guidance, leadership and support of our board members, and most of all for the flexibility of all of our friends and constituents as we have had to re-invent our volunteer and delivery processes more than once since the beginning of the school year.

As we round the corner on Thanksgiving and move into the Christmas holiday season, we are filled with hope that there are solutions on the horizon for fighting Covid-19.  Yet, we are mindful that there are months to go before we will see real progress and recovery…. months that will continue to challenge so many of the families we serve. Making promises is what we do to Give Hope to Hungry Kids.  Please consider making a gift to Weekend Survival Kits this holiday season, beginning with Giving Tuesday, December 1st.  And, if you can make it a recurring gift you will be filling our hearts with more hope to share!
